An unmissable chance to meet Ronald Blythe, prolific author, editor, and acute observer of life in rural Suffolk. His seminal work Akenfield: Portrait of an English Village, written with his trademark intelligence, wit and empathy, has inspired generations of readers and academics ever since its publication in 1969. He was President of the John Clare Society from its foundation in 1981 until 2015. This hugely influential writer comes to Aldeburgh as a debut author, to read from his first collection of poetry Decadal (Enitharmon Press), and to reflect on a writing life that has been so deeply connected with Aldeburgh’s rich cultural history.
This event is presented in association with the Centre for John Clare Studies at the University of Cambridge, and introduced by its co-Director Dr Paul Chirico. His book John Clare and the Imagination of the Reader was published in 2007 by Palgrave Macmillan.
