Art at the Festival

The Artist and the Book
Courtyard Gallery at Ballroom Arts during the Festival

This year’s Festival exhibition features two renowned Suffolk artists who have produced book-based works: John Christie, who has worked with poets such as Kenneth White, Ken Smith, Thomas A Clark and Gael Turnbull in his small-edition publications for both Circle Press and Objectiv Press; and Helen Gilbart, whose large-scale Book of Hours I & II was produced over lockdown and explores time, place, histories, identity, humanity and connections. Helen and John’s books will be on display in the Courtyard Gallery for the duration of the festival, and there is a free talk on Saturday 8 Nov at 13:15, when both artists will be discussing their work. A film by Emily Richardson documenting Helen Gilbart’s Book of Hours will be playing in The South Lookout, where more of Helen’s drawings will be on view.

The Book of Hours is a project created by artist Helen Gilbart, originally produced by The Art Station, with funding from Arts Council England and Suffolk County Council.
